A collection of maps of (Faerûn / Toril)’s human States.
They are based off the 2nd edition map from The Forgotten Realms Atlas by Karen Wynn Fonstad. I assume the world, as of 5e, is most similar to its 2e state. A fix to all the sundering/spellplague confusion in 3.5 & 4e.
I will not prolong this intro with any historical summaries. However, like with ancient Ireland & England, this is my attempt to rectify a dearth.
Maps will add to the available visual media of 5e political maps of Faerun, c. 1470’s – 1492 DR.
My reference sources for mapping are from The Forgotten Realms Wiki, official Campaign modules. With regards to borders specifically, most of them are “from this region to this mountain” or some variation on that.
On top of that, for up-to-date political lore, I will also be sourcing tid-bits from creators, such as Ed Greenwood. As an example, Scornubel‘s succession from Elturgard.
Some countries have expanded and shrunken a lot over their history. For the lesser known states, such as Vesperin, the most up-to-date info on the wiki is around the late 1470’s.
Project Scope: Details on The Human Lands of Faerûn
Unique to this project is the mapping of tribal territories with well known tribal communities, e.g Uthgardt Tribes, in:
- Savage North
- Horde Lands
- Shaar
Campaign modules, such as Storm King’s Thunder, The Forgotten Realms Wiki, and older, TSR campaign settings, such as The Horde Lands, give very detailed tribal / inner state territories.
These territories are represented by smaller names, such as Gray Wolf in the Savage North, Ankheg Tribe in the Shaar, and Tuigan in the Horde Lands.
For places like the Shaar Tribes, Nar Clans, and Arkaiun Clans, places without any source I could find on tribal / provincial borders I took some creative liberties. Drawing borders according to geographic boundaries (rivers, hills, etc.) and local cultural influence.
Other Maps of Faerûn; Other Creators
Adam Whitehead: A very detailed map of all of Toril with links to more detailed maps to specific continents, such as Faerûn, Zakhara & Kara-Tur. And even Maztica.
It dose not show state or tribal boarders, but rivers, mountains, and other geographic landmarks are made obvious and well labeled.

This post will act as a hub to different posts, focused on specific lands and territories, and be continually updated.
I will also make a gallery (just pictures, no extra text) when I have enough content pile up here.

Cannon Human Language Families: Breakdown
Staying visually constant, Language family colors are transferred over to each breakdown.
Red indicates inconsistencies and or purposeful obtuseness to true familial ties. Considered part of the larger family, there are some in-lore inconsistencies.
For an extreme example, look at the Chessan language family.
Most of the map is in red because the Akalaic sub-language is stated in lore, to be nothing like Chessic or the other Chessan languages. And on top of that, Akalaic claims to generated Chultan, but Chultan is just as alien to Akalaic, let alone Chessan.

Ethno-linguistic Groups: Outliers
Calishites:
Zakharan languages are an Untheric sub-language group, which is related to Imaskari. Strangely, the Calishite ethnicity is originally from Zakhara.
Calishite is an umbrella term, with Tethans (70%) and Djen (30%) making up its two major subethnicities.
Turami:
Turmic is a Thorass language, but the Turami share no other cultural similarities to other ethnicities in the Thorass ethno-linguistic group, found in and around the Vilhon Reach.
Turami are also physically distinct. Artists depict Turami similarly to the Chultans, in hair type and skin tone, as Afro-Caribbean. Very distinct to the European/Northern Mediterranean depiction of ethnicities in the Vilhon Reach region, such as Chondathans.

– Areas shaded in brown depict known, human civilization.
– Areas shaded in grey depict icecaps (Not necessarily continental underneath).
– Equator based on Adam Whitehead’s maps.

Ammathar: Depopulated but still stands, haunted by whatever killed its human population.
Guilmar: Destroyed by Lizardfolk from the Great Swamp to the west.
